Cooling Refrigerants of the Future.

An air conditioner or heat pump uses its refrigerant to cool and dehumidify the air before it’s sent back through your home. This liquid is housed within the coils of your cooling system, but one of the most common refrigerants used for many, many years – the R-22 (Freon) is now being replaced because of environmental concerns. In fact, this phase-out was mandated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency through the Clean Air Act. By 2020, the production of R-22 will end all together.

Introducing R-410A

R-410AChlorine-free and ozone-friendly, R-410A is recognized by the EPA. R-410A will cool your home without damaging the environment. What’s more, Lennox’s highest efficiency systems are engineered to use this AC refrigerant, which can help your system function efficiently. The same Lennox systems are known for durability, quiet operation and better dehumidification, so you can stay comfortable.

Additional Considerations

At Controlled Comfort HVAC Inc in Carpentersville, our cooling offerings can work with R-410A. If your system was made before 2010, you may want to consider replacing your cooling system now, before R-22 is completely phased out. Some manufacturers carry alternate refrigerants such as R-407C, R-438A and R-422, however, they may not work with an R-22 AC or heat pump and could compromise your system’s performance.
